2009 Transgender Day of Remembrance.: Purple Lights
Today, 20 November 2009, is the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day devoted to remembering all that have died because of the bias that people have against those of transgender status. It isn't about those of us that are alive and struggling to be recognized for who we really are but the people that didn't get that chance or can't continue the fight with us. Today is about every single person that has died because they failed to conform to the ideas of gender that are ingrained into the minds of so many. Today is about them and what they stood for, what their deaths still stand for. Even if only for today, they will be remembered for who they were.
